Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a city with a long history and culture. It is also an and modern city with a lot to offer visitors.
One of the best things about Lisbon is its location. It is situated on the Tagus River, and it offers wide views of the river and the surrounding hills. Lisbon is also a very walkable city, and it is easy to get around on foot.
Lisbon has a lot to offer visitors in terms of attractions. Some of the most popular attractions include:
- Jerónimos Monastery: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a for any visitor to Lisbon. It is an example of Manueline architecture, and it is home to the tomb of Vasco da Gama.
- Belém Tower: This tower was built in the 16th century to protect the entrance to Lisbon’s harbor. It is now a popular tourist destination, and it offers wide views of the river and the city.
- São Jorge Castle: This castle is located on the highest hill in Lisbon, and it offers wide views of the city. It is also a popular tourist destination, and it is home to a museum and a restaurant.
- Alfama District: This is Lisbon’s oldest district, and it is a maze of narrow streets and alleyways. It is a great place to wander around and soak up the atmosphere of old Lisbon.
- Baixa District: This is Lisbon’s central district, and it is home to many of the city’s most important attractions, including the Rossio Square, the Commerce Square, and the Santa Justa Elevator.
- Queluz Palace: a magnificent 18th-century palace in Portugal that was once the summer residence of the Portuguese royal family.
Lisbon is also a great city for foodies. The city has a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from traditional Portuguese cuisine to international fare. Be sure to try some of the local specialties, such as pastéis de nata (custard tarts), bifana (pork sandwich), and bacalhau (salted cod).
Close to Lisbon is one of my favorite place in all of Portugal- Sintra. So it is easy to bundle this mountain of castles in with your trip to Lisbon!
