What sparks the feeling of Home for you? Is it a place? A person or group of people? Foods or nostalgic experiences? A spiritual community? Pets? Music? Art? Safety? Love? Perhaps a sense of belonging.
The most common idea of home might be a place within four walls. Though for many it is so much more. When you adapt a different mindset around home it also makes travel and new environments easier to acclimate to as well as rest and relaxation more accessible no matter where you hang your hat. For some, home is a favorite childhood dish or the fragrance of your mother. Others it’s the laughter with friends, the familiarity of a comfortable chair, or the dining table where we have spent countless family gatherings. To many, home is synonymous with safety, where one can lower their guard, be vulnerable, and find solace with loved ones. The point is You get to define what home means to you. Yes you! You hold the power!
Do you believe the feeling of home goes beyond a physical place? Perhaps the warmth that we feel when surrounded by kindred spirits, whether they’re family or friends. It’s music and places that transport us to cherished moments.
In a crowded city or a small village, home can turn up in unexpected places if you’re with someone familiar whom you care for. It can be found in daily routines or at the corner cafe where the barista knows your name. You could feel a sense of home in a beloved pet’s companionship, or a partners embrace. Home is so much more than “four walls and roof”.
Acknowledging this expansive definition of home offers a shift in perspective. It means we can bring home within us, no matter where we go. It provides a space that is not bound by geography. So, whether we find ourselves in our childhood home or beneath unfamiliar stars, we can always find a sense of belonging within. Home is where the heart is, and I believe that the heart is boundless.
